Huawei Philippines Hosts Successful Hospitality Tech Day, Fostering Innovation in the Industry

10 October 2024

On October 10, 2024, Huawei Philippines held its highly anticipated Hospitality Tech Day, titled "Accelerated Industrial Intelligence," at the Huawei Milestone Office in Bonifacio Global City. Exclusively organized for members of the Hotel and Restaurant Association of the Philippines (HRAP), the event showcased Huawei's commitment to driving technological advancements within the hospitality sector.

The day began with a welcome address from HRAP President Eugene T. Yap, setting a tone of collaboration and forward-thinking. Following this, Mr. Jeff Tian, Huawei’s Optical Solution & Product Manager, took the stage to highlight the company’s significant achievements in technology since its inception in 2002. His insights underscored Huawei’s pivotal role in transforming the landscape of digital connectivity.

Mr. Arnold Alvarez, Huawei’s Chief Technical Officer, further emphasized the company’s dedication to building a fully connected, intelligent, and environmentally friendly industry in the Philippines. He detailed Huawei’s end-to-end cybersecurity assurance system, which ensures the protection of its departments, employees, and processes, reinforcing the importance of security and privacy in today’s digital age.

A poignant moment during Alvarez's presentation was a reminder of Huawei’s customer-centric philosophy. He recalled how, in the wake of Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013, Huawei was the first to respond, facilitating communication during a critical time. More recently, in 2020, Huawei collaborated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Smart to implement an AI-powered monitoring system to combat illegal logging and wildlife poaching in Palawan.

As the event progressed, the focus shifted to the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the hospitality industry. Alvarez explained that the integration of AI accelerates digital economic growth, enabling unprecedented innovation and disruption. “Connectivity and data are at the heart of technology,” he stated, highlighting the potential for machines to operate at human levels, freeing individuals to focus on more impactful tasks.

Mr. Jeff Tian introduced the hospitality sector to Huawei's industry-first F5G 10G All-Optical Solution (FTTO 2.0), designed to enhance digitalization in hotels. He explained that today’s clients prioritize exceptional user experiences and efficient operations, made possible through high-speed bandwidth connectivity and simplified architecture. FTTO provides hotels with reliability and flexibility, essential in an increasingly competitive market.

Continuing the momentum, Mr. Carlos Daniel Bataan, Huawei’s Product Solutions Engineer, presented the Huawei e-Kit solutions and portfolio tailored for small and medium enterprises. He showcased an array of competitive products, including desktop routers, rack-mounted routers, switches, wireless access controllers, and access points, designed to meet the diverse needs of SMEs and the hospitality industry.

The event culminated with Mr. Taylor Lai from the Enterprise Business Distribution Sales Department, who introduced the Huawei Intelligent Collaboration Solution, featuring the IdeaHub Product Portfolio. This innovative suite aims to enhance collaboration and communication within organizations, vital for the evolving landscape of hospitality.

Overall, the Hospitality Tech Day served as a vital platform for HRAP members to engage with Huawei's cutting-edge technologies, fostering a collaborative spirit to advance the hospitality sector in the Philippines. As the industry navigates the challenges of digital transformation, Huawei stands ready to lead the way in innovation and connectivity, ensuring a brighter, more connected future for all.
